There is a major POC representation gap in the cinematic arts. Although there has been some progress in the past several years, minorities remain underrepresented on every front within the industry. NPF is working to combat these issues.
People of color remain underrepresented among directors in both film and television, and only make up the following percentages in the industry:

“Our lives are shaped by stories. They teach us, define us and inspire us, but when we are only exposed to stories that convey similar worldviews, we begin to believe the narrative from the perspective of the dominant culture. It is imperative that we tell all kinds of stories from all kinds of storytellers so that there is fair representation of different ethnicities and cultures created by artists from varied social and cultural circumstances.”
